Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Stacey Lajoie, UMass Lowell (Sr., OF, Gardner, Mass.) - Batted .500
(10 for 20) with 12 runs, six RBI, four walks and seven stolen
bases (in seven attempts) in a 4-2 week. Highlights include a
3-for-3, two-RBI effort with three runs in a 6-2 win over
Stonehill. Also went 4-6 with five runs and three RBI in a 9-1/8-3
sweep over Saint Michael's.
Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week
Nicole Welch, Saint Rose (Sr., SP, Albany, N.Y.) - Went 4-1 with a
1.35 ERA and held opponents to a .170 batting average last week.
Fanned 18 batters and walked four in 26.0 innings of work. Went the
distance in all three of her starts as well. Allowed two runs on
three hits and struck out four in a 3-2 win at Assumption. Then
held the Greyhounds to a pair of singles while fanning five in a
4-0 triumph Saturday morning. Tossed three innings of one-hit ball
in relief to pick up the win in a 4-3 victory at Saint Anselm.
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week
Kristen Dolan, American International (Fr., SP, Norwood, Mass.) -
Was 2-1 with a 0.64 ERA and 25 strikeouts in three games last week.
Scattered 11 hits over nine innings of relief in a 7-6 extra-inning
win over Pace and fanned five in a complete-game shutout at UMass
Lowell. Also registered 11 strikeouts in six innings against
Stonehill.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Alex Hitchcock, Bentley (Sr., SS, Abington, Mass.) – Batted
at a .400 clip (6-15) during a 2-4 week. Had a double, home run,
sacrifice fly, two runs scored and three RBI. Tied the Bentley
career record for games played and started (167 for both).
Jennifer Farrelly, Le Moyne (Sr., SP, Latham, N.Y.) - Hit .467
(7-for-15) with a home run, eight runs batted in, seven runs scored
and drew six walks, while picking up a pair of victories in the
pitcher's circle in a 5-1 week. Tossed 4.2 innings with eight
strikeouts, while driving in a run and scoring once in an 11-2 win
over Bentley. Registered two hits, including a walk-off two-run
homer, and scored twice in an 8-0 win over Bentley in game two.
Posted two hits, four runs batted in and one run scored, while
earning a complete-game victory in a 10-3 victory at Southern New
Hampshire.
Kelly Schweikert , Le Moyne (Jr., 2B, Rochester, N.Y.) - Hit .500
(10-for-20) with five stolen bases, four runs batted in and five
runs scored in 5-1 week. Registered three hits and a stolen base in
a 6-3 win at Saint Anselm. Posted two hits, two stolen bases and
two runs scored in a 10-3 victory at Southern New Hampshire. Went
2-for-5 with two doubles, three runs batted in and two runs scored
in a doubleheader sweep of Bentley.
Kristen LeMay, Merrimack (So., SS, North Andover, Mass.) - Batted
.526 with 10 hits and four RBI in 19 at-bats. Had a homerun against
Pace.
Breanne Gleason, New Haven (Jr., SP, Bristol, Conn.) - Pitched 31.0
innings and allowed just seven runs. Allowed no earned runs in
4-of-5 appearances and threw 36 strikeouts. Recorded a 2-1 record
and one save on a 4-2 team week. Threw a week-high nine strikeouts
against Caldwell College. Became the Chargers all-time appearance
leader on Friday and tied the career homerun record on
Saturday.
Meghan Walter, New Haven (Jr., 1B, Bay Shore, N.Y.) – Led the
team with a .375 batting average in a 4-2 week. Totaled seven RBI
and six hits and scored five runs. Tallied a week-high three RBI in
the 13-5 victory over Franklin Pierce and went a perfect 2-for-2 at
the plate.
Lauren Bell, Pace (Fr., SS, New Windsor, N.Y.) - Batted .400
(10-for-25) and slugged .800 with two homeruns, seven RBI, four
doubles and four runs scored in eight games. In a doubleheader
split with Saint Anselm, had an RBI double and a solo homerun. In a
twin bill split with Merrimack, blasted a three-run homerun in the
opening game victory. Against Bentley, went 4-for-6 with two
doubles and two RBI.
Brittney Birch, Saint Anselm (Sr., C, Bradford, Mass.) - Hit .407
in eight games last week, including four multiple-hit games and one
4-for-4 performance in game one at Saint Michael's. Had 11 hits,
including three doubles. Also added five runs batted in, five runs
scored and one stolen. Against No. 23 Le Moyne, threw out a pair of
base runners and in the process set the Saint Anselm career record
for base runners thrown out stealing at 35 for her career.
Amanda Morano, Saint Rose (Jr., C, Highland, N.Y.) - Batted .400
with seven runs, four RBI and a pair of homers during a 4-2 week.
Also slugged .800 while going 6-for-15 at the plate. In a 3-2 win
at Assumption, finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI on the
strength of two solo home runs in the game. Was 1-for-2, walked
twice and stole a bag in a 4-0 win at Assumption. Then went 3-for-4
and scored three times in a 4-3 triumph at Saint Anselm.
Ashley Harkins, Saint Michael's (Sr., OF, Colchester, Vt.) - In a
2-4 week, went 12-for-19 (.632) with two RBI and seven runs scored.
Collected 15 total bases, stole four bases, and posted a .789
slugging percentage. In her final game, set the single-season and
career hits record, while also setting the single-season runs
scored and doubles record.
Megan Caporossi, Southern Connecticut (Jr., SS, Northford, Conn.) -
Registered eight hits in 21 attempts (.381), drove in eight runs
and scored four in a 5-1 week. Recorded a three-run homerun at
Franklin Pierce in an 8-0 win and a two-run triple against Bentley.
Finished the week with a .619 slugging percentage and a .364
on-base-percentage.
Brittany Gandley, Southern Connecticut (Sr., 1B, Holbrook, N.Y.)
– In a 5-1 week, went 7-for-17 (.412) at the plate with seven
RBI and two runs scored. Had a three-run blast in the 9-1 win over
Bentley. Furthermore, closed the week with a .588 slugging
percentage and a .421 on-base-percentage.
Kyla Puccini, Southern New Hampshire (Fr., SP, North Dighton,
Mass.) - Went 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA in four starts last week. Fired a
complete-game two-hit shutout in a win over Assumption, and allowed
three runs (two earned) in 4.1 innings of work in a win over No. 23
Le Moyne.
Courtney Young, Stonehill (Sr., C, Danvers, Mass.) - In eight games
last week had seven hits, four for home runs to go with eight RBI
and six runs scored.
Weekly Notes:
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL: AIC secured its first
Northeast-10 Championship appearance since 2004 after sweeping a
doubleheader at UMass Lowell. The Yellow Jackets' game-two victory
over the River Hawks marked the 925th career victory for head coach
Judy Groff. Her career record now stands at 925-584-5 (.613) in her
41 seasons at AIC.
BENTLEY: Seniors Alex Hitchcock and Ashley DeRosa
(Wethersfield, Conn.) each tied the Bentley career records for
games played and started on Sunday when they played in their 167th,
and should break the record when the Falcons finish their season
against Franklin Pierce Monday. Also on Sunday, Hitchcock and
classmate Dina Ferriero (Tewksbury, Mass.) surpassed the former
school record for career at bats (500).
NEW HAVEN: On Friday in the Chargers first game
against Stonehill, Breanne Gleason appeared in her 112th game as a
Charger and passed Jo-Lynn Cimino on the New Haven career records
list. One day later, in the victory over Franklin Pierce, Gleason
hit a homerun and tied Jackie Kupka for tops on the UNH record list
with 17 career homeruns. The Chargers also earned their 30th win of
the season on Saturday, becoming just the eighth team in program
history and just the second since 1998 to record 30 or more wins in
a season.
SAINT MICHAEL’S: Senior Megan O'Connor set
the single-season program record with 32 RBI and also set the
program record with 31 career doubles. Senior Ashley Harkins
finished the year with 55 hits and 165 for her career, which are
both new program records. She also has the single-season record of
38 runs scored, while breaking the single-season doubles record
with 13.
SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE: Senior Karissa Bettencourt
(Norton, Mass.) became SNHU's all-time leader in runs scored with a
solo home run Sunday against Saint Rose. She has now scored 76
runs. Fourth-year head coach Deb Robitaille became SNHU's
winningest coach with the Penmen win in the first game against
Saint Rose Sunday. She now has 83 wins, surpassing Ray Prouty, who
posted 81 wins from 1981-86.
