Southern Connecticut’s Frost
and Vitagliano Named
NE-10 Swimming Athletes of the Year

South Easton, Mass. – Southern Connecticut State
University’s Kristen Frost (Madison,
Conn.) and Dan Vitagliano (New Haven,
Conn.) were named the 2007-2008 Swimming & Diving
Athletes of the Year as voted upon by the conference’s seven
coaches.
Also receiving post-season award accolades from Southern
Connecticut are Aaron Rocheleau (Newington,
Conn.) and Ali Bronson (Torrington,
Conn.) who were selected Men’s Freshman of the
Year and Women’s Diving Athlete of the Year respectively. The
College of Saint Rose’s Brandon Birchak (Latham,
N.Y.) earned Men’s Diving Athlete of the Year
for the second straight season, while Bentley College’s
Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass.) was named
Women’s Freshman of the Year.
Southern Connecticut’s Tim Quill
was named Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year,
marking the fifth straight year he was named women’s coach of
the year. The Owl’s Jesse Cyr was
selected Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach of the Year for
the fifth straight year.
Frost ended the 2007-2008 swim season on a high note, capturing
four National Championships at the Division II Swimming &
Diving Championships in March. Frost set new Division II records in
the 500-yard, 1000-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events along with
winning the 200-yard freestyle. During the Northeast-10
championships, she finished first in the 200-yard freestyle,
100-yard butterfly, 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM to earn Most
Valuable Swimmer honors.
Vitagliano finished the year with a sixth place showing in the
200-yard freestyle (1:39.64) at this year’s Division II
Swimming & Diving Championships. Vitagliano was also named the
Most Valuable Swimmer at this year’s Northeast-10
Championships. He finished first in the 800-yard relay, 200-yard
freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Rocheleau participated in two events at this year’s Division
II Swimming & Diving Championships. Rocheleau finished 13th in
the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.98 and finished 11th in
the 200-yard IM (1:52.68). He took home All Conference honors with
first place showings in the 800-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard
IM at the NE-10 Championships.
The former Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year, Bronson was named
the NE-10 Women’s Diver of the Year for the second straight
season. Bronson swept this year’s one-meter and three-meter
diving events at the NE-10 championships. She won the one-meter
with 358.30 points and the three-meter with 399 points. In
addition, she was named the championships most valuable diver.
Birchak was selected again as the Northeast-10 Men’s Diver
of the Year. Birchak swept this year’s one-meter and
three-meter diving events at the NE-10 Championships. He earned all
conference accolades in the one-meter with 505.80 points and the
three-meter with 505.80 points. Birchak also was named the
championships most valuable diver.
Kaduboski earned all conference honors at this year’s
Northeast-10 Championships. Kaduboski finished second in the
800-yard freestyle relay, the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard
butterfly. At the New England Championships, she took home four
first place finishes (100 and 200 butterfly and 400 medley and 800
freestyle relays) and finished second in three other events
(50-butterfly and 200/400 freestyle relays). Kaduboski set school
records in all seven events.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
