Northeast-10 Men?s Swimming Athlete of the Week

Matt Kavanagh, Saint Rose (Jr., Newburgh, NY) - Won four events en route to being named the Northeast-10 Championship Swimming Most Valuable Athlete. He placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.19) and set a meet record in the 100 freestyle (46.64) on Saturday after winning both the 100 breaststroke (1:00.51) and broke his own school record in the 200 free (1:42.64) on Friday.

Northeast-10 Women?s Swimming Athlete of the Week

Stacey Mehringer, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Reading, MA) ? Was named the Northeast-10 Championship Swimming Most Valuable Athlete. Won the 400-yard individual medley, breaking her own meet and Southern Connecticut record with a time of 4:39.74 and won the 200-yard butterfly with a meet record time of 2:08.40, just missing the NCAA "A" cut by .31 seconds. Was also a member of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team with a meet record time of 8:09.54 as the Owls defended their team championship.

Northeast-10 Men?s Diving Athlete of the Week

John Wood, Southern Connecticut (Jr. , Columbia, CT) ? Was named Northeast-10 Championship Diving Most Valuable Athlete after winning the one-meter and three-meter diving events. He scored 400.55 points to take the one-meter event and 415.20 points on the three-meter board.

Northeast-10 Women?s Diving Athlete of the Week

Kim Grant, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Groton, CT) - Was named Northeast-10 Championship Diving Most Valuable Athlete, winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She won the one-meter competition with a score of 358.10 points, breaking her own meet record, and took the three-meter event with 438.20 points, another meet mark which qualified for the NCAA Division II championships.

Northeast-10 Men?s Freshman of the Week

Denny Shupe, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Berwyn, PA) - Set a Northeast-10 championship meet record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:15.64. He also led off the Owls' winning 800-yard freestyle relay team, which registered a time of 7:14.71. Placed third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.77.

Northeast-10 Women?s Freshman of the Week

Amy Browning, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Fort Worth, TX) - At the Northeast-10 Championship, won three individual events and anchored a winning relay team, all with meet record times, in helping lead the Owls to their second consecutive NE-10 title. Won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.56 seconds; the 200-freestyle with a Southern record time of 1:54.95; and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:14.14. She also anchored the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team with a winning time of 8:09.54.

MEN:

Sean Osit, Bentley (So., Acton, MA) - Captured the 200 yard butterfly (meet and school record 1:57.88) at the Northeast-10 championship. Also finished third in the 100 butterfly (53.54), 100 breaststroke (1:02.71), 200 medley relay (1:43.00) and 400 medley relay (3:48.77), and fourth in the 400 free relay (3:20.43) and 800 free relay (7:46.25).

Eric Schena, Bentley (Sr., Haverhill, MA) - At the Northeast-10 Championships, finished second in both the three-meter (354.60) and one-meter (365.80).

Will Chidsey, Le Moyne (Jr., Liverpool, NY) - Won three events and teamed on three relay wins as Le Moyne finished second at the Northeast-10 Championship. Won the 50 free in a meet record 21.50, the 200 back in 1:57.31, and captured the 100 back in 52.79. He swam on Le Moyne's relay winning 400 free (3:13.44), 200 free (1:27.62), 200 medley (1:39.70).

Ryan Lowrie, Le Moyne (Fr., Johnson City, NY) - Helped Le Moyne to two relay wins and fourth in the 100 free and 100 butterfly.

Mike Ferraro, Southern Connecticut (Jr., New Paltz, NY) - The Southern co-captain set a meet record with a time of 2:15.65 in winning the 200-yard breaststroke at the Northeast-10 championship. He was also a member of the Owls' winning 400-yard medley relay team, which recorded a time of 3:38.79 and finished second in the 100 breaststroke.

WOMEN:

Brianne Tulley, Bentley (Jr., Chelmsford, MA) - Captured the 200 yard breaststroke at the Northeast-10 Championship with a time of 2:34.40. Scored a total of 84.5 points in the meet. Also finished second in 100 breaststroke (1:10.86), 200 free relay (1:43.40) and 400 medley relay (4:15.30), third in 200 medley relay (1:57.62), and fourth in 200 freestyle (2:02.73) and 400 free relay (3:53.73).

Erin Curley, Le Moyne (Sr., Latham, NY) - Won the 100 breast (1:10.14) and swam on two relay wins at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Teamed for Le Moyne wins in the 200 free (1:42.34) and 400 medley (4:09.20).

Meghan Mahoney, Le Moyne (Sr., Troy, NY) - Won the 50 free in a meet record time of 25.57 and teamed for two relay wins at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Was on the 200 free relay winner (1:42.34) and the 400 free (4:09.20) team.

Genevieve Suits, Le Moyne (Fr., Jamesville, NY) - Won one individual event and captured two relay wins at Northeast-10 Championship. Won the 100 Backstroke in 1:01.66, opened the 400 medley relay win and anchored the 400 free win for the Dolphins. She also finished second in the 50 free (25.82) and second in the 100 free (55.11).

Ali Bronson, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Torrington, CT) - Finished second in three-meter diving behind teammate Kim Grant, scoring 370.50 points. She placed third in one-meter diving at the Northeast-10 championship meet, scoring 326.85 points.

Carolynn Navarro, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Seymour, CT) - Set a meet record in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the Northeast-10 championship with a time of 17:59.46. Was also on the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team which set a meet record with a time of 8:09.54 as Southern defended its Northeast-10 title.

Caitlin Turina, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Torrington, CT) - At the Northeast-10 championship, the Owls' co-captain won the 200-yard backstroke with a meet record time of 2:15.02. Was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, which registered a time of 1:54.26.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: Coach Tim Quill's Owls successfully defended their Northeast-10 Conference men's and women's championships over the weekend in the second annual event at Hutchinson Natatorium. Senior Stacey Mehringer was selected as the outstanding female swimmer of the championships for the second straight year. The All-America won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:39.74, setting a meet and Southern Connecticut record while reaching the NCAA "B" cut. She also was a member of the Owls' 800-yard freestyle relay team, which set a meet record of 8:09.54 and set another meet mark in winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.40, missing the NCAA "A" cut by just .31 seconds. Senior Kim Grant was named the outstanding female diver of the championships, winning on both the one and three-meter boards with meet record scores. She scored 358.10 points in one-meter diving and 438.20 points in the three-meter event, surpassing the NCAA Division II "A" qualifying standard. Junior John Wood earned the outstanding male diver award, capturing NE-10 titles in both one- and three-meter diving. He scored 415.20 points on the three-meter board and 400.55 points in one-meter diving. Freshman Amy Browning had an outstanding meet for Southern, winning the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle events, all in meet record times, while setting a Southern record time of 1:54.95 in the 200-yard event. She was also part of Southern's winning 800-yard freestyle relay team , which set a meet record with a time of 8:09.54. Other winners and meet record-setters for the Owls included freshman Denny Shupe in the men's 400 IM (4:15.64); junior co-captain Mike Ferraro in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:15.65; junior Carolynn Navarro in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:59.46; and senior co-captain Caitlin Turina, who won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.02?BENTLEY: At the Northeast-10 Championships, Bentley sophomore Sean Osit (Acton, Mass.) set a meet and school record en route to winning the 200 yard butterfly (1:57.88). Bentley's other champion was junior Brianne Tulley (Chelmsford, Mass.), who had a winning time of 2:34.40 in the 200 breaststroke.
