Northeast-10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Ramon Laboy, Southern Connecticut (Gr., Danbury, CT) - Won the mile run with a time of 4:13.14 at the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic. Passed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships.

Northeast-10 Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Julie Handy, UMass Lowell (Sr., Yorba Linda, CA) - Qualified for the NCAA Championship and achieved a personal best in winning the 55 meter hurdles at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational. Won the preliminary in 8.24 seconds and went on the capture the final in 8.63 seconds. Was also a member of the 4x200 relay team that took first place with a time of 1:47.13.

Northeast-10 Men's Track Freshman of the Week

Gary Pope, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Brooklyn, NY) - Registered a time of 49.56 seconds in the 400-meter dash for a third-place finish at the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic.

Northeast-10 Women's Track Freshman of the Week

Melissa Nash, Bentley (Fr., Marshfield, MA) - At the Tufts Invitational, finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:01.97.

Northeast-10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Ivan Schmidt, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Bridgeport, CT) - Won the high jump at the Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic with a mark of seven feet, passing the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships.

Northeast-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Enjoli Edwards, UMass Lowell (Sr., Philadelphia, PA) - Captured the shot put and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a throw of 44' 9.5''. The distance marked the third-farthest individual throw in UML history.

Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll:

MEN:

Stephan Ramirez, Bentley (So., San Antonio, TX) - At the Tufts Invitational, finished second in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:33.42.

Lawrence Aidoo, UMass Lowell (Sr., Providence, RI) - Captured the 55 meter dash at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational with a time of 6.46 seconds. Also won the preliminary and improved upon a time of 6.55 seconds. Was a member of the second place 4x400 team with a time of 3:28.

Doug Caves, UMass Lowell (Fr., Oxford, MA) - Won the 400 meter dash at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational in 50.30 seconds in a field of 21 runners.

Nate Potter , UMass Lowell (Sr., Wyoming, RI) - Captured the weight throw at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational with a distance of 49' 11.75''.

Rocky LeFort, UMass Lowell (So., Nashua, NH) - Won the shot put at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational with a distance of 48' 6.0'', more than three feet farther than the rest of the field.

WOMEN:

Erin Doherty, UMass Lowell (So., Lawrence, MA) - Ran a leg on two of UMass Lowell's relay teams at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational. Helped the UML 4X200 meter relay team to first place in 1:47.13 and also helped the 4X400 meter relay team to second place in 4:09.53.

Toni-Marie Henry, UMass Lowell (Jr., Springfield, MA) - Won the 55 meter dash and placed second in the 200 meter dash at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational. Captured the 55 in 7.39 seconds, improving on her preliminary time of 7.48. Posted a time of 26.21 seconds in the 200.

Rebecca Ciccarelli , Bentley (Fr., Natick, MA) - At the Tufts Invitational, finished fifth in the 55 meter dash with a Bentley season-best time of 7.74 seconds. Also placed ninth in the 200 (28.08).

Randi Cuccaro, Southern Connecticut (Gr., Oxford, CT) - Placed third in the weight throw but first among collegians at the Yale Track Classic with a toss of 51 feet, nine inches.

Sasha Mathelier, Southern Connecticut (So., Uniondale, NY) - Tied for third in the pole vault at the Yale Track Classic with a height of 10 feet, six inches.

Northeast-10 Weekly Notes:

UMASS LOWELL: UMass Lowell's NCAA Qualifying list grew by two Saturday at the Tufts University Jumbo Invitational. Senior Enjoli Edwards (Philadelphia, PA) won the shot put and qualified with a distance of 44' 9.50'' while senior Julie Handy (Yorba Linda, CA) won the 55 meter hurdles, achieving a personal-best 8.24 seconds in the preliminary and 8.63 in the final. Edwards and Handy join the men's 4X400 meter relay team (3:18.34) and junior Steve Plouffe (5,000 meters/14:46.24) of Methuen, MA as UML's NCAA Championship qualifiers this season.
