Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Doug Caves, UMass Lowell (Fr., Oxford, MA) - Won the 400-meter dash
and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship. Posted a
time of 47.46 seconds, which surpassed the school record of 47.54.
Ran the preliminary in 47.62.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Nicole Plante, UMass Lowell (Sr., North Adams, MA) - Placed third
overall - tops among Division II and III athletes - in the 3,000
meters in 9:55.03 at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic. Provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Championship and posted the second-fastest
result in school history.
Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the Week
Robert Liekweg, UMass Lowell (Fr., Salem, NH) - Placed second in
the decathlon at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic with 5,221 points.
Placed in the top five in six of the events, highlighting with
first-place finishes in both the 100-meter dash (11.44 seconds) and
400-meter dash (50.72); second place in the javelin (127' 11.0''),
third in the long jump (20' 0.25'') and fourth in the 110-meter
high hurdles (16.51).
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the Week
Barbara Powell, Bentley (Fr., Granby, MA) - At the Shamrock
Invitational at Coastal Carolina, set a PR in the 1500 (4:53.89)
while finishing 12th of 37 overall and first amongst non-Division I
runners. Also helped the distance medley relay (12:38.05) to a
third place finish and ran a leg on Bentley's 4x400 relay team
(4:15.94).
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the Week
Tom Miller, UMass Lowell (Fr., Framingham, MA) - Registered a pair
of top-10 finishes among Division II and III athletes at the
UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic. Placed 10th overall and second among
Division II-III entries in the javelin with a distance of 154'
7.0''. Also placed 29th overall (10th in the Division II-III
contingent) in the discus with a throw of 90' 10.0''
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the Week
Courtney Lincoln, UMass Lowell (Fr., Mansfield, MA) - Placed 18th
overall and second among Division II and III athletes in the long
jump at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic. Leaped to a distance of 16'
3.0'' and also placed 19th overall (sixth) in the 100-meter hurdles
with a time of 15.96 seconds.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Dan Darcy, Bentley (Fr., Sharon, MA) - In the 800-meters at the
Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational, was ninth overall in a
44-runner field with a time of 1:57.92. Had the second best time
amongst Division II runners. Also ran a leg in the DMR, helping the
team to a time of 10:34.76.
Kevin Donovan, Bentley (Jr., Tonawanda, NY) - Had Bentley's highest
finish in the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina, placing
fifth amongst 25 in the 5,000 meters (15:34.70). Was second amongst
non-Division I runners.
Samantha Robbins, Bentley (Jr., Franklin, MA) - In the Shamrock
Invitational at Coastal Carolina, finished 11 of 31 in the 800
(2:30.55) and 15th of 37 in the 1500 (4:59.11). Was fourth amongst
non-Division I runners in the 800 and third amongst non-Division I
athletes in the 1500. Also helped the DMR team to a third place
finish (12:38.05).
Clint Cooper, UMass Lowell (Sr., Raynham, MA) - Placed fifth
overall and third among Division II-III athletes in the 400 meter
dash in 48.61 seconds at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic.
Ruben Sanca, UMass Lowell (So., Boston, MA) - Placed seventh
overall (tops in the Division II-III field) in the 3,000 meters in
the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic in 8:44.85.
Weekly Notes:
UMASS LOWELL: Doug Caves broke a 30-year-old school record
at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic. Posted a time of 47.46 seconds
in the 400-meter dash, which surpassed the school record of 47.54
achieved by Harry Riley in 1976. Ran the preliminary in 47.62, the
third-fastest time in school history.
