Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Hafiz Greigre, Bryant (Sr., Attleboro, MA) - Captured first place
in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at Northeastern's Huskie
Invite, winning the 100 meters in 10.97 seconds and the 200 meters
in 21.21. Also helped lead the 4x100 meter relay team to a first
place finish and the 4x400 meter relay to a second place
finish.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Nicole Plante, UMass Lowell (Sr., North Adams, MA) - Placed first
among all collegiate runners (second overall) and posted the
fastest time in the country in the 10,000 meters at the Mount San
Antonio College Relays. Achieved a time of 34:07.03, the top time
in the country by more than 1:30, to automatically qualify for the
NCAA Championship. Also broke her own school record (34:35.75)
achieved last year.
Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the Week
Donte Brown, UMass Lowell (Fr., Raynham, MA) - Captured the
400-meter hurdles and set a meet record at the George Davis
Invitational with a time of 54.79 seconds. Also placed second in
the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.23 seconds.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the Week
Stephanie Montagano, Bryant (Fr., Wakefield, MA) - Finished fifth
in the 400 meter dash at the Northeastern Huskie Invitational,
finishing as the top Division II runner in a time of 1:00.50. Also
helped the 4x100 meter relay team to a first place finish in 52.59
seconds.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Rocky LeFort, UMass Lowell (Jr., Nashua, NH) - Won the shot put and
set a meet record at the George Davis Invitational with a throw of
50' 1.75'', eclipsing his own meet record of 49' 10'' set last
year.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Molly O'Connell, Assumption (So., Sandy, UT) - Finished second in
the shot put (11.92m/39-01.25) and third in the discus
(34.14m/112-00) at the George Davis Invitational.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the Week
Tom Clarke, American International (Fr., Glastonbury, CT) -
Finished fourth at the Wesleyan Invitational in the shot put
(42'5.5"), and sixth in the discus (114'11") and javelin
(153'4").
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the Week
Meghan Rocha, Stonehill (Fr., Nashua, NH) - Broke own school record
in the discus (35.61 meters) with a second place performance at the
George Davis Invitational. Added a second place performance in the
hammer throw as well with a mark of 34.96 meters.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Joe Kowalczyk, Assumption (Gr., Wilbraham, MA) - Won the discus
with a throw of 43.87 meters (143-11) and finished fourth in the
shot put (14.34m/47-00.75) at the George Davis Invitational.
Rebecca Ciccarelli, Bentley (So., Natick, MA) - Set a personal best
while finishing second amongst 16 overall in the 400 meter dash at
the George Davis Invitational with a time of 1:01.59, which was the
best amongst NE-10 runners. Also helped the 4X100 relay team with a
fourth place finish with a time of 51.58.
Stephan Ramirez, Bentley (Jr., San Antonio, TX) - Was first amongst
NE-10 runners, and fourth overall (of 38), in the 1500 meters at
the George Davis Invitational, posting a time of 4:07.11.
Samantha Robbins, Bentley (Jr., Franklin, MA) - At the George Davis
Invitational, was second amongst 41 runners, and first amongst
NE-10 competitors, in the 1,500 meters, with a time of 4:53.39.
Nathaniel Green, Bryant (Fr., York, ME) - Captured first place in
the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Northeastern Huskie
Invitational. Finished in a time of 9:58.34.
Haley Catarius, UMass Lowell (Fr., Marshfield, MA) - Captured the
400 meter hurdles at the George Davis Invitational in 1:05.16.
Doug Caves, UMass Lowell (Fr., Oxford, MA) - Won the 400 meter dash
and set a meet record at the George Davis Invitational. Posted a
time of 47.91 seconds and edged the previous mark of 47.93 seconds
set by teammate Clint Cooper last year.
Coreen Edward, UMass Lowell (Fr., Boston, MA) - Won the 100 meter
dash at the George Davis Invitational in 12.66 seconds. Also ran a
leg on the 4X100 meter relay team, which placed second in 49.86
seconds.
Justin Oliver, UMass Lowell (Fr., Lowell, MA) - Captured the triple
jump at the George Davis Invitational with a distance of 43' 6.5''.
Also placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.84.
Ruben Sanca, UMass Lowell (So., Boston, MA) - Won the two-mile race
at the George Davis Invitational and set a meet record with a time
of 9:19.63.
Ashley Wallace, Pace (Sr., Oswego, NY) - At the Wesleyan
Invitational, finished third in the shot put with a throw of 10.66
meters - 34-11.75. Placed 14th in the discus throw with a toss of
19.46 meters - 63-10. In the 100 meter dash, finished 12th with a
time of 14.23.
Sutton Underwood, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Norwalk, CT) - Tied
for first place in the pole vault at 4.45 meters at the Brown
Invitational.
Bridget DeVincent, Stonehill (Fr., Attleboro, MA) - Posted a first
place performance in the 5,000 meters at the George Davis
Invitational with a time of 18:44.71.
Tyler Guilmette, Stonehill (So., East Longmeadow, MA) - Placed
second in the long jump (6.62 meters) at the George Davis
Invitational. Was also part of the winning 4 X 100 relay with a
time of 42.60.
Derek Hebert, Stonehill (Sr., Rockland, MA) - Captured top honors
in the 800 meters at the George Davis Invitational with a time of
1:55.91.
Vinnie Williams, Stonehill (Sr., Springfield, MA) - Posted a
winning time in the 200 meters (22.32) and second place in the 100
meters (10.80) at the George Davis Invitational. Was also part of
the winning 4 X 100 relay team with a time of 42.60.
Weekly Notes:
UMASS LOWELL: Senior Nicole Plante (North Adams,
MA) topped all collegiate runners and posted the fastest time in
the country in the 10,000 meters Friday night at the prestigious
Mount San Antonio College Relays. Plante placed second overall with
a time of 34:07.03, besting the previous Division II mark of
35:38.90 by junior Erin Richard of Clarion (PA) University by more
than a minute and a half. Plante placed second only to Maria Elena
Valencia of Mexico, who posted a time of 32:40.58. Plante also
shattered her own school record of 34:35.75 by more than 28 seconds
and fell shy of qualifying for the U.S. Championship by a mere
seven seconds. The result virtually guarantees a place in the NCAA
Championship for Plante, which will mark the third straight year
she has qualified for the NCAAs in the 10,000 meters.
PACE: At the Wesleyan Invitational, freshman
Maurice Little broke the school record in the 400 meter run with a
time of 51.97 seconds, surpassing a mark held since 1991. Freshman
Chris Smith nearly broke the school triple jump record, leaping
40'03-1/2" - 12.27m, just 3.5 inches short of the 2004 mark.
Sophomore Kency Gilet ran a 1:01.08 in the 400m Intermediate
Hurdles, just 2 seconds off his own school record. Sophomore Caylie
Kachinski ran a personal best in the 800m run with a time of
2:38.75.
