Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Stephen DeWitt, UMass Lowell (Gr., Ellsworth, Maine) - Placed
sixth overall and posted the fastest Division II time in the
country in the mile at the Boston University Terrier Invitational.
Ran the course in 4:06.53, edging the previous mark of 4:06.54 set
by Patrick Morasse in 2005, and automatically qualified for the
NCAA Championship.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete and Freshman of
the Week
Lyra Clark, UMass Lowell (Fr., Nashua, N.H.) - Placed 13th
overall, tops among Division II-III runners, and broke the school
record in the mile at the Boston University Terrier Invitational.
Ran the course in 5:05 - the fifth-fastest time in the country this
season - and edged the previous record of 5:07.04 set by Amanda
Sousa in 2006.
Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the Week
Johan Rafael, UMass Lowell (Fr., Lawrence, Mass.) -
Placed 10th overall and third among Division II-III athletes in the
200 meter dash in 22.18 seconds. Also ran a 49.6-second leg on
UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which placed ninth overall
and tops among Division II-III foursomes in 3:19.71.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Terry Goldson, American International (Fr., Ansonia, Conn.) -
Placed sixth in the high jump at Boston University's Terrier
Invitational, clearing 1.88 meters.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Molly O'Connell, Assumption (Jr., Tulsa, Okla.) - Won the shot put
at the Wesleyan University Invitational with a distance of 38 feet,
01.25 inches (11.61 meters).
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the Week
Cory Murray, UMass Lowell (Fr., Methuen, Mass.) - Placed second
overall in a field of 43 throwers - tops among Division II-III
athletes - in the shot put at the Boston University Terrier
Classic. Threw for a distance of 50' 5.25'', placing behind only
Jan Bicanic of BU (50' 11.5'')
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the Week
Corinne Flieger, Bentley (Fr., Hopkinton, Mass.) - At the BU
Terrier Classic, tied for 19th of 33 in the high jump with a
season-best performance of 4'11.75".
Weekly Honor Roll:
Dan Darcy, Bentley (So., Sharon, Mass.) - Finished ninth of 50 in
the 1,000 meters at the BU Terrier Classic, with a personal best
time of 2:28.51. Seven of the eight runners who were in front of
him were from Division I institutions.
Barbara Powell, Bentley (So., Granby, Conn.) - At the BU Terrier
Classic, was 15th amongst 37 runners in the 1,000 meters with a
season-best time of 3:03.29. Was 12th amongst collegians and the
highest finishing non-Division I runner. Also helped Bentley
finished fifth of eight in the 4x800 relay with a time of
9:56.45.
Mark Zurlo, Bentley (Jr., North Haven, Conn.) - Set a new PR in the
triple jump at the BU Terrier Classic, with his distance of 42
feet, one-half inch good for 9th amongst 21 competitors.
Conor Richardson, Bryant (Fr., Attleboro Falls, Mass.) - Placed
17th in the triple jump at the Boston University Terrier
Invitational, clearing a best mark of 39 feet, 5.75 inches.
Amber Torrey, Bryant (Sr., Plainfield, N.H.) - Had two strong
finishes at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Placed
fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 46-6.75 and followed with
a 12th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 36-6.75.
Haley Catarius, UMass Lowell (So., Marshfield, Mass.) - Placed
10th overall - first among Division II-III runners - and
provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 800 meters
at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Ran the course in
2:16.05, the sixth-fastest time in Division II this year.
Doug Caves, UMass Lowell (So., Oxford, Mass.) - Placed fourth in a
field of 108 in the 400 meter dash at the Boston University Terrier
Invitational. Ran the course in 47.87 seconds to catapult into the
top three results in the country.
Andrew Grange, UMass Lowell (Jr., Methuen, Mass.) - Placed second
among 108 entries in the 400 meter dash at the Boston University
Terrier Invitational. Posted a time of 47.77 seconds, which
improved his NCAA Championship standing and currently ranks within
the top three times in Division II this season.
Courtney Lincoln, UMass Lowell (So., Mansfield, Mass.) - Placed
sixth overall and second among Division II-III entries in the 55
meter hurdles at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Posted
a time of 8.82 seconds.
Olivia Thibou, UMass Lowell (So., Boston, Mass.) - Placed third
overall and first among Division II-III athletes in the triple jump
with a distance of 36' 5.75'' at the Boston University Terrier
Invitational. Also took 16th (fifth among II-III entries) in the
long jump with a distance of 15' 8.25''.
Letecia Taylor, Southern Conn. (So., Piscataway, N.J.) - Reached
an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 55 meter hurdles with a
time of 8.31 seconds at the Great Dane Classic. Also reached a
provisional mark as a part of the 4x400 meter relay team with a
team time of 3:56.51
Keith Gill, Stonehill (Sr., Brockton, Mass.) - Set the school
record with a 4:06.3 finish in the Mile Run. Also qualified for the
NCAA national championship.
Kevin Gill, Stonehill (Fr., Brockton, Mass.) - Set a freshman
record with 4:10.97 finish in the Mile Run at the BU Terrier
Classic.
Tyler Guilmette, Stonehill (Jr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Set the
school record with a 22'6" leap in the long jump. Finished first in
the event.
Kelly O'Toole, Stonehill (Fr., Nashua, N.H.) - Finished 10th place
overall in the 3000 Meter Run. Finished with a time of 10:18.07 at
the BU Terrier Classic.
Weekly Notes:
UMASS LOWELL: Their list of NCAA Championship
qualifiers grew to six last weekend at the Boston University
Terrier Invitational. Graduate student Stephen DeWitt posted the
fastest time in Division II (4:06.53) in the mile and broke a
school record while junior Ruben Sanca placed 12th overall, third
among Division II-III athletes and currently ranks eighth
nationally (4:11.07). DeWitt and Sanca joined junior Andrew Grange
(47.77) and sophomore Doug Caves (47.87) who placed second and
fourth in the 400 meter dash at BU and rank among the top three in
Division II. On the women's side, sophomore Haley Catarius posted
the sixth-fastest time in Division II (2:16.05) as she took 10th
overall (tops among II-III athletes) in the 800 meters. Freshman
Lyra Clark was the top Division II-III runner in the mile (13th
overall), broke a school record and registered the fifth-fastest
time in the country this season (5:05.30).
