Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Stephan Ramirez, Bentley (Sr., San Antonio, Texas) - Broke the
Bentley mile record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA
Championships in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:08.07 in the Jack
Thompson Invitational Mile at the Texas Relays. Placed 12th of 16
overall in a very fast race that featured four-time NCAA champion
Leonel Manzano, who broke 3:57. The time equates to a 3:49.69 1500,
which would be the third fastest by a Division II runner this
season.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Melissa Nash, Bentley (Jr., Marshfield, Mass.) - At the Stonehill
Invitational, finished first amongst Northeast-10 runners and
fourth of 30 overall in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:53.18. Was
also 12th of 38 in the 800 (2:27.58).
Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshmen of the Week
Johan Rafael, UMass-Lowell (Fr., Lawrence, Mass.) - Captured the
100 meter dash and set a school record at the Stonehill
Invitational. Posted a time of 10.77 seconds to eclipse the
previous school mark of 10.86 set in 2006 by Lawrence Aidoo.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the Week
Lauren Raimondi, UMass-Lowell (Fr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Won
the 100 meter hurdles at the Stonehill Invitational with a time of
15.36 seconds.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete and Freshman of the
Week
Maurice Calenda , American International ( Fr. , Bloomfield, Conn.
) - Won the long jump with a distance of 6.85 meters and also took
home a first-place finish in the triple jump at 13.76 meters. Also
placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.27 seconds and
was a member of the third-place 400-meter relay team that finished
in 44.61 seconds.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jacqui Barrett, UMass-Lowell (So., Woburn, Mass.) - Won the shot
put and improved on her NCAA Championship qualifying standing at
the Stonehill Invitational. Threw for a personal-best distance of
44' 10'', currently sixth on the Division II list.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the Week
Tina Gillen, Assumption (Fr., Carver, Mass.) - Placed second in
the javelin with a distance of 33.38 meters (109 feet, 6 inches) at
the Stonehill Invitational.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Terry Goldson, American International (Fr., Ansonia, Conn.)
– Was the runner-up in the high jump after clearing 1.81
meters and placed ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.75
meters.
Molly O’Connell, Assumption (Jr., Tulsa, Okla.) –
Placed second in the discus throw with a distance of 35.81 meters
at the Stonehill Invitational.
Jenna Lapachinski, UMass Lowell (Fr., Turners Falls, Mass.)
– Won the 400 meter hurdles at the Stonehill Invitational
with a time of 1:06.52.
Rocky LeFort, UMass Lowell (Sr., Nashua, N.H.) – Won the
shot put at the Stonehill Invitational with a throw of
51’3.0”.
Robert Liekweg, UMass Lowell (So., Salem, N.H.) – Won the
400 hurdles at the Stonhill Invitational with a time of 53.62
seconds. Also placed fourth in the javelin with a distance of
156’1.0”.
Gillian Mundry, UMass Lowell (Sr., Methuen, Mass.) – Won the
triple jump (34’11.25”) and placed second in the long
jump (17’0.0”) at the Stonehill Invitational.
Cory Murray, UMass Lowell (Fr., Methuen, Mass.) – Place
second in the shot put at the Stonehill Invitational with a throw
of 49’6.5”.
Larry Johnson, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Stratford, Conn.)
– Ran to three top ten finishes at the Sam Howell
Invitational. Was a member of the 4X100 relay team that won the
even with a time of 41.77. Also finished third in the 100 meter
dash (10.99) and ninth in the 200 meter dash (22.36).
McNeil Johnson, Southern Connecticut (Jr., East Hartford, Conn.)
– Was a member of the 4X400 relay team that ran to a first
place finish with a time of 3:16.62 at the Sam Howell Invitational.
Also took second in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 53.37
seconds.
Tyrone Joseph, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Norwalk, Conn.) –
Was a member of two first place relay squads at the Sam Howell
Invitational. The 4X100 relay team won with a time of 41.77 and the
4X400 relay team finished at 3:16.62.
Sasha Mathelier, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Freeport, N.Y.)
– Placed third in the pole vault at the Sam Howell
Invitational with a vault of 11’7.75”.
Colleen Carmen, Stonehill (Fr., Drexel Hill, Pa.) - Set a new
school record with a jump of five feet, three inches to finish in
second place at the Stonehill Invitational.
Kevin Gill, Stonehill (Fr., 1500, Brockton, Mass.) - Led a trio of
Skyhawks to top five finishes in the 1500 meters. Finished with a
time of 3:59.76 at the Stonehill Invitational.
Tyler Guilmette, Stonehill (Jr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Set a
school record with a long jump of 6.88 meters to take top honors in
the event at the Stonehill Invitational.
Tom Kilby, Stonehill (So., Fall River, Mass.) - Took top honors in
the javelin with a throw of 54.18 meters at the Stonehill
Invitational.
Weekly Notes:
BENTLEY: Senior Stephan Ramirez, competing in his home
state in the Jack Thompson Invitational Mile at the Texas Relays,
broke the Bentley record with a time of 4:07.08 and provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Division II championships.
