Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Ruben Sanca, UMass Lowell (Sr., Boston, Mass.) - Posted the fastest time in the country and qualified for both the U.S. and NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Placed third overall - tops among Division II-III runners - with a school record time of 14:05.46, besting UMass Lowell's 24-year-old record by nearly seven seconds.

Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Haley Catarius, UMass Lowell (Jr., Marshfield, Mass.) - Provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in two events at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Placed seventh overall (first among Division II-III runners) with a time of 2:14.43, the second-fastest time in UMass Lowell history. Also ran a 58.3-second leg on UML's 4X400 meter relay team which placed 10th (first) in 3:57.52.

Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the Week

Kevin Downing, New Haven (Fr., Meriden, Conn.) - Set the school record for the 200-meter dash at the Boston University Terrier Invitational with a time of 21.82. Finished second out of 107 runners. Time is the fifth fastest in NCAA Division II this season.

Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the Week

Christen Carrier, Stonehill (Fr., Manchester, N.H.) - Finished 25th in the 400 with a time of 59.81 at the BU Invitational. Was the top Division II finisher in the event.

Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Sutton Underwood, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Norwalk, Conn.) - Claimed second place in the pole vault with a vault of 5.10 meters at the Albany Great Dane Invitational.

Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Jacqui Barrett, UMass Lowell (Jr., Woburn, Mass.) - Placed fifth overall (first among Division II-II throwers) in the shot put at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Threw for a distance of 44' 3.0''.

Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the Week

Giovanni Frias, UMass Lowell (Fr., Lawrence, Mass.) - Placed third overall - first among Division II-III athletes - in the high jump at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Cleared 6 feet, 4.25 inches.

Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the Week

Bidemi Balogun, American International (Fr., Providence, R.I.) - Won the weight throw at Wesleyan's Cardinal Invitational with a toss of 15.57 meters, shattering her own school record of 12.86 meters, and beating the rest of the field by three meters.

Weekly Honor Roll:


Brian Mulwo, American International (Fr., Kapsabet, Kenya) - Took first place in the 5,000-meter run, completing the race in 15:29.84 at Wesleyan's Cardinal Invitational.

Dominic Smith, American International (Fr., Bloomfield, Conn.) - Had a pair of first place finishes in the 200- and 400-meter dash at the Wesleyan's Cardinal Invitational. Broke the tape in the 200 in 22.83 seconds and the 400 in 50.50 seconds. In the 55-meter dash, finished in sixth with a time of 6.78 seconds.

Bernard Scott, Assumption (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla.) - Finished first in the 55-meter dash at the Wesleyan University Cardinal Invitational with a time of 6.51.

Dan Darcy, Bentley (Jr., Sharon, Mass.) - At the BU Terrier Classic, was 12th of 90 in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:55.19. Was ninth amongst collegians and first amongst NE-10 runners.

Melissa Nash, Bentley (Sr., Marshfield, Mass.) - Set a school record in the 5,000 meters and improved on her NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a time of 17:38.22 during the Boston University Terrier Classic. Improved on seven-year-old Bentley standard by 3.27 seconds.

Donte Brown, UMass Lowell (So., Brockton, Mass.) - Provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in two events at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Placed fifth overall with a time of 48.51 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Also helped the UMass Lowell 4X400 meter relay team to second place behind Seton Hall with a time of 3:16.44.

Christina DaLomba, UMass Lowell (Sr., Marstons Mills, Mass.) - Placed 12th overall, tops among Division II-III runners and broke a school record in the 1,000 meters at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Ran the course in 2:57.43, besting the previous mark of 2:58.38 set in 2003 by nearly a second. -

Andrew Grange, UMass Lowell (Sr., Methuen, Mass.) - Placed second overall (first among Division II-III sprinters) and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Posted a time of 48.05 seconds.

Cory Murray, UMass Lowell (So., Methuen, Mass.) - Topped the Division II-III field (placed 10th overall) in the shot put at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Threw for a distance of 48' 1.75''.

Lauren Raimondi, UMass Lowell (So., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Placed 15th overall and first among Division II and III athletes in the high jump at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Cleared 5 feet, 1 inch and also placed 23rd (second) in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds.

Danny Wang, UMass Lowell (Fr., Haverhill, Mass.) - Placed 17th overall (second among Division II-III runners) in the 800 meters at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. Ran the course in 1:56.70.

Shannon Gagne, New Haven (So., Meriden, Conn.) - Broke the school record for the indoor 200-meter dash at the Boston University Terrier Invitational with a time of 25.22 while provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Placed 12th in that race out of 123 runners.

Kevin Jackson, Saint Rose (Sr., Schenectady, N.Y.) - Turned in a second placed individual performance and helped the 4x400 relay squad capture first at the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational. Broke the tape second in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.00. Also ran the second leg on the 4x400 relay team that registered a winning time of 3:33.87.

Macky Lloyd, Saint Rose (Fr., Voorheesville, N.Y.) - Contributed a pair of second place performances to lead Saint Rose at the non-scoring Wesleyan Invitational. Ran the 800m in 2:01.58 and set up a winning effort for the distance medley relay squad that completed the race in 10:47.13.

Letecia Taylor, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Plainfield, Conn.) - Finished fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.36 seconds at the Albany Great Dane Classic. - Rank:

Tyler Guilmette, Stonehill (Sr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Finished fifth in the long jump at the BU Invitational (22'3.0). Was the top finisher among Division II or III athletes in the event.

Torrey Price, Stonehill (Sr., Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) - Finished second in the 55 meter dash (6.44 sec.) and seventh in the 200 (22.18 sec.) in a field littered with Division I runners.

Weekly Notes:

BENTLEY: At the Boston University Terrier Classic, senior Melissa Nash (Marshfield, Mass.) broke a seven-year-old school record in the 5,000 meters by 3.27 seconds with a time of 17:38.22 seconds. Entering the weekend, only seven Division II runners nationwide had posted a better time. Freshman Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa.) moved to second on Bentley’s all-time list in both the 200 (22.53 seconds) and the 400 (49.36). Junior Dan Darcy (Sharon, Mass.) was invited to participate in the College 800 at the ESPN-televised Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Feb. 7.
