Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Doug Caves, UMass Lowell (Jr., Oxford, Mass.) - Won the New England Championship in the 400 meter dash and the 4X400 meter relay and led UMass Lowell to third place. Posted a school record in the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 47.24 seconds, currently the third-fastest time in the country. Also ran a 47.4-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which placed first in 3:13.92, the fastest time in Division II this season.

Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Letecia Taylor, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Plainfield, N.J.) - Won the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 8.15 at the New England Championships. Was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that raced to a fourth place finish in 3:51.84 and set a new school record for the indoor 4x400m relay.

Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the Week

Kevin Downing, New Haven (Fr., Meriden, Conn.) - Won the 200-meter dash at the New England Championships in a school-record time of 21.41. Automatically qualified for the national meet. Finished more than half of a second ahead of second place.

Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the Week

Ashley Jackman, Saint Rose (Fr., Duanesburg, N.Y.) - Was part of the school record setting 4x400 relay squad and was just six seconds off the school mark in the 1,000-meter run at the NYU Fast Track Invitational. Anchored the relay team that crossed the line in 4:12.01, thus breaking the school's 14-year old mark. Also took 14th in the 1,000 with a 3:06.93 clocking.

Northeast-10 Co-Men’s Field Athletes of the Week

John Brinley, Southern Connecticut (Sr., East Hartford, Conn.) - Won the weight throw with a toss of 18.44 meters at the New England Championships.

Tyler Guilmette, Stonehill (Sr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Jumped 22 feet and 9.25 inches to take the crown in the long jump at the New England Championships.

Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Yvonne Perkins, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Danbury, Conn.) - Threw to a third place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.82m (45’4.25”) at the New England Championships.

Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the Week

Alex Joseph, American International (Fr., New Britain, Conn.) - Placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.77 meters at the New England championships.

Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the Week

Bidemi Balogun, American International (Fr., Providence, R.I.) - Placed third in the weight throw with a school-record and NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 16.86 meters and the New England championships. She is the first-ever national qualifier from either AIC track & field team.

Weekly Honor Roll:

Rebecca Ciccarelli, Bentley (Sr., Natick, Mass.) - Broke a five-year-old school record in the 400 meters by 0.09 seconds with a time of 59.68 at the New Englands. Was second amongst NE-10 competitors and 18th overall in the event. Also helped Bentley post a season-best 4:11.79 in the 4x400 relay.

Dan Darcy, Bentley (Jr., Sharon, Mass.) - Provisionally qualified for the NCAAs in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:53.87 during the New Englands. Finished second amongst Division II runners, fourth amongst non-Division I competitors and 13th of 32 overall. Also ran leg on Bentley’s 4x400 relay team, which posted a season-best 3:23.73.

Melissa Nash, Bentley (Sr., Marshfield, Mass.) - Earned All-New England honors after finishing fourth in the 3,000 meters at the New Englands. Time of 10:01.95 was number two on Bentley’s all-time list, a season-best by about 22 seconds and just about a second off the school record.

Jacqui Barrett, UMass Lowell (Jr., Woburn, Mass.) - Placed fourth at the New England Championship in the shot put with a season-best distance of 45 feet, 2.5 inches. Also bettered her position on the NCAA Division II list to 12th.

Matt Blazon, UMass Lowell (So., Lowell, Mass.) - Placed fourth and earned All-New England honors in the heptathlon. Compiled 4,646 points and highlighted the event with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (34' 1.25''), fifth in the high jump (6' 0.5'') and fifth in the long jump (20' 2.5''). Also placed second in the 1,000 meters (2:44.86) and 55 meter hurdles (7.86).

Patricia Brice, UMass Lowell (So., Chelmsford, Mass.) - Earned All-New England honors in two events and set a school record at the New England Championship. Set the school record in the 500 meters preliminary (1:15.38) and moved on to place seventh in the final in 1:16.61. Also ran a 59.1-second split on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which placed fifth in 3:52.63 and went from 14th to eighth on the Division II list.

Donte Brown, UMass Lowell (So., Brockton, Mass.) - Earned All-New England honors in two events and helped lead UMass Lowell to the 4X400 meter relay championship. Placed second overall in the 400 meter dash in 47.25, just 0.01 seconds behind teammate Doug Caves and the fourth-fastest time in the country. Anchored the 4X400 meter relay team to first in 3:13.92, running a 47.8-second leg.

Haley Catarius, UMass Lowell (Jr., Marshfield, Mass.) - Broke a school record and earned All-New England honors in two events at the New England Championship. Eclipsed the school record in the 800 meters preliminary Friday with a time of 2:13.73 and placed eighth overall in the final to earn All-New England status in 2:16.27. Also ran a 57.90-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which placed fifth in 3:52.63 and ascended from 14th to eighth on the Division II list.

Ruben Sanca, UMass Lowell (Sr., Boston, Mass.) - Won New England Championships in both the 3,000 meters and distance medley relay. Won the 3,000 meters in 8:16.44 and ran the mile in 4:08.10 on UMass Lowell's distance medley relay team which placed first in 9:55.30, which currently ranks fourth in the country.

Shannon Gagne, New Haven (So., Meriden, Conn.) - Automatically qualified for the national meet in the 200-meter dash as she finished fourth at the New England Championships. Set the school record for the event in a time of 24.47.

Diwani Augustine, Southern Connecticut (Jr., East Hartford, Conn.) - Placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.26 meters at the New England Championships.

McNeil Johnson, Southern Connecticut (Sr., East Hartford, Conn.) - Placed second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.71 seconds. Was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished third with a time of 3:16.41 at the New England Championships.

Danielle Moore, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Palmdale, Calif.) - Ran to a third place finish in the 800 meters in 2:13.11 at the New England Championships. Was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that raced to a fourth place finish in 3:51.84 and set a new school record for the indoor 4x400m relay.

Ryan Whitehead, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Darien, Conn.) - Finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 4.95 meters at the New England Championships.

Kevin Gill, Stonehill (So., Brockton, Mass.) - Member of DMR relay which finished second by only .17 seconds on Friday at the New England Championships. Placed eighth in the one mile run with a time of 4:12.84.

Torrey Price, Stonehill (Sr. , Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) - Received All-New England Honors at the New England Championships after finishing fourth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.44. Also took fifth in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.18 seconds.


Weekly Notes:

BENTLEY: Senior Melissa Nash earned All-New England honors in the 3,000 meters with her fourth-place finish the highest by a Bentley woman at the New Englands since 2002. Two school records were set during the meet, with Rebecca Ciccarelli breaking a five-year-old standard in the 400, and the quartet of Lindsey Kennedy (Stoneham, Mass.), Amy Papalia (Marlboro, Mass.), Maddy McDonnell (San Francisco) and Barbara Powell (Grandy, Mass.) breaking the school record in the 4x100, one that had stood since 2002. On the men’s side, junior Dan Darcy provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800 meters and currently ranks #24 on the NCAA list in the event.
