Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the
Week
Doug Caves, UMass Lowell (Jr., Oxford, Mass.) - Placed second
overall - tops among Division II-III sprinters - in the 400 meter
dash at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational in 46.77 seconds,
automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championship with the fourth
fastest time in the country. Also ran a 48.6-second leg on UMass
Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which placed first in 3:12.59 and
improved to eighth on the Division II list.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the
Week
Shannon Gagne, New Haven (Jr., Meriden, Conn.) – Led the team
with first place finishes in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter
dashes at the Springfield College Invitational. Provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 meter with a time
of 24.63 and the 400 meter with a time of 56.67 seconds.
Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the
Week
Kevin Downing, New Haven (Fr., Meriden, Conn.) – Led the team
with first place finishes in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter
dashes at the Springfield College Invitational. Ran a time of 10.73
in the 100 meter finals. Also ran a time of 21.26 in the 200 meter
finals for the win and 48.69 seconds in the 400 meter.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the
Week
Evelyn Marrero, Bentley (Fr., Amsterdam, N.Y.) - Set a personal
best in the 5,000 meters during the Fitchburg State Invitational,
with her time of 18:52.48 placing her second of 20.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the
Week
Maurice Calenda, American International (So., Bloomfield, Conn.) -
Won both the long and triple jumps at the Holy Cross Invitational.
In the long jump, finished with a leap of 6.92 meters and won the
triple with a 13.98 meter jump.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the
Week
Lauren Raimondi, UMass Lowell (So., East Longmeadow, Mass.) -
Placed fourth overall - first among Division II-III athletes - in
the high jump at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational, clearing 5
feet, 8.0 inches. Provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship
as the personal-best result ranks tied for third in the
country.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the
Week
Adam Habansky, Bentley (Fr., Stratford, Conn.) - Finished fourth of
30 in the javelin during the Fitchburg State Invitational, with a
throw of 159 feet, 3 inches. Also helped Bentley finish second of
five in the 4x100 meter relay, in 44.62 seconds.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the
Week
Keisha Johnson, Bentley (Fr., Randolph, Mass.) - At the Fitchburg
State Invitational, was second of 13 in the long jump
(16’8.5”) and third of 10 in the triple jump
(34’8.25”). Both were season-best performances.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Olivia Thibou, American International (Jr., Boston, Mass.) - Broke
school records in both the triple jump and the long jump. Won the
triple with a distance of 10.75 meters, and placed fifth in the
long with a leap of 5.14 meters.
Kyle Higgins, Assumption (Fr., Braintree, Mass.) - At the Silfen
Invitational at Connecticut College, finished first in the 3,000
meter-steeplechase with a career best time of 10:27.08.
Molly O’Connell, Assumption (Sr., Sandy State, Utah) - At the
Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College she finished second in
both the shot put and the discuss. Threw the shot 36-07.75 feet and
she threw the discus 109-05 feet.
Steve Bergantino, Bentley (Jr., Guilford, Conn.) - Captured the
5,000 meters at the Fitchburg State Invitational, recording a
season-best time of 15:37.11.
Dan Darcy, Bentley (Jr., Sharon, Mass.) - At the Fitchburg State
Invitational, set a personal best of 3:56.48 en route to finishing
first amongst a 35-man field in the 1500 meters. Also placed second
of 37 in the 800 with a time of 1:57.00.
Rebecca Ciccarelli, Bentley (Sr., Natick, Mass.) - At the Fitchburg
State Invitational, finished first amongst 19 runners in the 400
meters, with a season-best time of 1:00.02. Also was part of
Bentley’s 4x100 relay team which was second of five teams in
52.36 seconds.
Jeremy Langton, Bentley (Sr., Mansfield, Mass.) - Finished first of
37 in the 800 meters at the Fitchburg State Invitational, posting a
season-best time of 1:56.82.
Mike Vatti, Bentley (Fr., Easton, Mass.) - Set a personal best of
22.39 seconds in the 200 meters, good for a first place finish,
amongst 44 competitors, at the Fitchburg State Invitational. Also
was second of 32 in the 400, his time of 49.00 a season-best.
Mark Zurlo, Bentley (Sr., North Haven, Conn.) - Finished third of
11 in the triple jump at the Fitchburg State Invitational, with a
distance of 41 feet, six inches.
Sarah Brassard, UMass Lowell (Sr., Oxford, Mass.) - Placed 12th
overall - tops among Division II-III runners - in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational. Broke her
own school record for the third time this season (by more than 30
seconds) with a time of 10:50.79 and provisionally qualified for
the NCAAs with the seventh-fastest result this season.
Andrew Grange, UMass Lowell (Sr., Methuen, Mass.) - Placed fourth
overall and second among Division II-III sprinters in the 400 meter
dash at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational with a time of 46.91
seconds. Improved to fifth on the NCAA Division II list. Also ran a
47.0-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which
placed first in 3:12.54.
Tim Guerin, UMass Lowell (Jr., Auburn, Mass.) - Placed third
overall and tops among Division II-III runners in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational. Broke his
own school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA
Championship with a time of 9:01.93, besting his previous mark of
9:14.28 by more than 12 seconds.
William Nguidjoi, UMass Lowell (Jr., Lawrence, Mass.) - Top
Division II-III finisher in two events at the Princeton Larry Ellis
Invitational. Placed sixth overall in the triple jump with a
distance of 42' 10.25'' and took 14th in the long jump with a leap
of 20' 3.75''.
Ryan Saunders, Saint Rose (Fr., Cambridge, N.Y.) - Registered four
top-five finishes, including a first place showing in the 400-meter
hurdles to lead the team to a fourth place finish at the
Springfield Invitational. Crossed the line in 55.72 to capture the
400m hurdles and also took fourth in the high jump after clearing
1.76-meters, was fourth in the 100m in 11.12 and anchored the 4x400
relay squad that wound up fourth with a time of 3:31.43.
John Walsh, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Brookfield, Conn.) - Won the
javelin throw at the Metropolitan Championships with a toss of
49.56 meters as the Owls took third in the meet.
Colleen Carmen, Stonehill (So., Drexel Hill, Pa.) - Finished second
in the high jump at Holy Cross, jumping 4'11.75.
Erica Insel, Stonehill (Fr., Clinton, N.J.) - Finished third in the
javelin at Holy Cross and broke an eight year old school record
with her toss of 121 feet three inches.
Torrey Price, Stonehill (Sr., Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) - Won the 100
meter dash with a time of 11.16 seconds at Holy Cross. Also took
fifth in the 200 with a time of 22.63.
