Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete and Freshman of the
Week
Kevin Downing, New Haven (Fr., Meriden, Conn.) - Broke the school
record and won the 100-meter dash at the Yale University Springtime
Invitational with a time of 10.46 seconds, just .01 seconds away
from automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Also
broke his previous school record in winning the 200-meter dash with
a time of 20.96 seconds, automatically qualifying for the NCAA
Championships.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the
Week
Shannon Gagne, New Haven (Jr., Meriden, Conn.) - Won both the
100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Yale University Springtime
Invitational. Captured the 100 in a school record time of 11.96,
becoming the first female in school history to break the 12.00 mark
in the event. Her time in the 100 is currently the 10th fastest in
Division II. Also finished first in the 200 with a season-best time
of 24.42.
Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the
Week
Evelyn Marrero, Bentley (Fr., Amsterdam, N.Y.) - Was fifth of 15 in
the 3,000 meters at the Brown Invitational, posting a time of
10:48.98.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the
Week
Diwani Augustine, Southern Connecticut (Jr., East Hartford, Conn.)
- Won the triple jump with a leap of 14.52 meters and took fifth in
the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.16 seconds at the Yale
Springtime Invitational.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the
Week
Jacqui Barrett, UMass Lowell (Jr., Woburn, Mass.) - Placed third
overall and tops among Division II and III throwers in the shot put
at the Brown Spring Invitational. Threw a season-best distance of
46' 6.0'' to improve her place on the Division II list to sixth.
Also placed eighth overall (third) in the College Women's Eastern
Shot Put at thePenn Relays with a toss of 43' 7.25''.
Northeast-10 Men’s Field Freshman of the
Week
Russell Fallo, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Redding, Conn.) -
Finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.21 meters at the
Yale Springtime Invitational.
Northeast-10 Women’s Field Freshman of the
Week
Samantha Spindel, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Brewster, N.Y.) -
Placed second in the discus throw with a toss of 38.10 meters and
fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 43.62 meters at the Yale
Springtime Invitational.
Weekly Honor Roll:
Maurice Calenda, American International (So., Bloomfield, Conn.) -
Placed second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump at the
UMass Spring Meet. In the long jump, he leaped 6.84 meters and
recorded a distance of 13.58 in the triple. Ran the fourth leg of
the 4x100 relay team that set a new school record in 42.63
seconds.
Dominic Smith, American International (Fr., Bloomfield, Conn.) -
Won the 400-meter dash at the UMass Spring Meet with a
school-record time of 48.34 seconds.
Olivia Thibou, American International (Jr., Boston, Mass.) - Broke
the school record in the triple jump by placing fifth with a
distance of 11.29 meters. Also competed in the long jump and
finished ninth with a leap of 5.01 meters.
Dan Darcy, Bentley (Jr., Sharon, Mass.) - Finished sixth of 43 in
the 800 meters at the Brown Invitational, his time of 1:56.64 the
best by a non-Division I competitor.
Dave Kusmin, Bentley (So., Westwood, Mass.) - Set personal bests in
both the long jump (21’4”) and the triple jump
(42’10.75’) during the Brown Invitational, placing
seventh in each event.
Mike Vatti, Bentley (Fr., Easton, Pa.) - During the Brown
Invitational, placed fourth in both the 200 meters (35 competitors)
and the 400 meters (27-man field). Time of 22.27 in the 200 was a
new personal best, and posted a 49.10 in the 400.
Haley Catarius, UMass Lowell (Jr., Marshfield, Mass.) - Won the 800
meters at the Brown Springtime Invitational and improved to 10th on
the NCAA Division II List. Posted a time of 2:11.82.
Robert Liekweg, UMass Lowell (Jr., Salem, N.H.) - Won the 400 meter
hurdles at the Brown Spring Invitational in 54.28 seconds. Also ran
a 49.5-second leg on the 4X400 meter relay team which placed 29th
overall and third among Division II-III foursomes at the Penn
Relays in 3:14.69.
Angela Colandrea, New Haven (Sr., Jackson, N.J.) - Set the school
record in the 400-meter hurdles at the Yale University Springtime
Invitational with a time of 68.82, breaking the previous record
(72.91) by more than four seconds.
Sasha Mathelier, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Freeport, N.Y.) - Won
the pole vault at the Yale Springtime Invitational with a vault of
3.51 meters and placed 14th overall in the pole vault at the Penn
Relays with a leap of 3.50 meters.
Danielle Moore, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Palmdale, Calif.) -
Claimed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.98 at the
Yale Springtime Invitational and was a member of the 4x400 meter
relay team that finished in 4:00.63 at the Penn Relays.
Nana Ocran, Southern Connecticut (So., Manchester, Conn.) - Placed
second overall in the 100 meter dash (10.72 seconds) and fourth in
the 200 meter dash (22.06 seconds) at the Yale Springtime
Invitational.
Yvonne Perkins, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Danbury, Conn.) -
Finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.11 meters and
fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.93 meters at the Yale
Springtime Invitational.
Gary Pope, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) - Won the 400
meter dash in 48.64 seconds at the Yale Springtime Invitational and
was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished in 3:17.79
at the Penn Relays.
Letecia Taylor, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Plainfield, N.J.) -
Placed second in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.11 at the Yale
Springtime Invitational and was a member of the 4x400 meter relay
team that finished in 4:00.63 at the Penn Relays.
Courtni Walker, Southern Connecticut (So., Uniondale, N.Y.) - Took
second in the long jump with a leap of 5.43 meters at the Yale
Springtime Invitational and was a member of the 4x100 meter relay
team that finished the meet in 49.24 seconds at the Penn Relays.
