Bentley Falcons Picked to Finish First in NE-10
Preseason Volleyball Poll

South Easton, Mass. – The Falcons of Bentley College are predicted to win the 2007 Northeast-10 Volleyball Regular Season Title as determined by the conference’s 15 head coaches.

Bentley, the reigning Northeast-10 champion, received 12 first-place votes for the top point total of 221, beating out last season’s regular season champion, the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose (203). In 2006, Saint Rose won their first-ever regular season title and went undefeated in conference play. The Golden Knights also received two first-place votes.

Bryant University (12-2, NE-10) came in third in the poll, just three points behind Saint Rose with 200 points. The Bulldogs received the remaining first-place vote. Coming in fourth place in the poll are the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University (9-5, NE-10) with 173 points, followed by the University of Massachusetts Lowell (10-4, NE-10) to round out the top five.

Le Moyne College (9-5, NE-10) and Pace University (8-6, NE-10) came in sixth and seventh respectively, being separated by a mere three points (136 to 133). Merrimack College (7-7, NE-10) received 121 points for eighth place followed by Southern New Hampshire University (7-7, NE-10) at 117 points. Stonehill College (3-11, NE-10) received 89 tallies to round out the top 10.

Southern Connecticut State University (72), Assumption College (57), American International College (54), Saint Michael’s College (44) and Saint Anselm College (31) round out the poll respectively.

The 2007 season kicks-off tomorrow with Franklin Pierce participating in the second annual Nova Southeastern Shark Classic. The Ravens are scheduled to play two matches against Minnesota State University-Mankato and Nova Southeastern University. Southern Connecticut and Saint Michael’s begin NE-10 action with a match-up on Tuesday, August 28.

Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any Division II conference.
