South Easton, Mass. – Merrimack College
and Franklin Pierce University both appeared on the Women’s
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor
Roll, it was announced on Tuesday.
Merrimack came in at No. 12 on the list with a team grade point
average of 3.532, while Franklin Pierce was tied for 21st with a
3.446 team GPA.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II
and III; NAIA; and junior and community college women’s
basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined
GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the
entire season.
The 2011-12 season is the 17th in which the WBCA has produced the
honor rolls.
“Performing at a high level academically was a major
emphasis for our team this past year,” said Merrimack head
coach Monique LeBlanc. “This
recognition is a credit to the hard work and focus of each of the
student-athletes in our program.”
The team academic honor for Merrimack comes following
LeBlanc’s first year as head coach of the Warriors.
The achievement for Franklin Pierce comes after the Ravens
advanced to the NCAA Tournament this past season under head coach
Steve Hancock.
