Manchester, N.H. – Former Saint Anselm
College women's basketball player, Jen
Gureckis '11, will take part in the Boston Brain
Tumor Walk on Saturday, October 12 at Mother's Rest at Carson Beach
in Boston, Mass.
Gureckis, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the middle of her
senior season after getting off to the best start of her career, is
currently in remission, but her journey is far from over. Gureckis
was averaging 7.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per
game, while shooting 92.9 percent from the free throw line through
her first nine games of the season when she was diagnosed.
To join Gureckis' team for the walk, visit
www.BrainTumorWalk.org/Boston, click the "register" tab and choose
"join a team." You can then search for her team, "Strength in
Stride," which represents Gureckis' strength throughout her fight
with brain cancer over the last year and a half.
The cost for those who pre-register online is $25 and a free
T-shirt is also included. Participants can also register the day of
the walk at 8 a.m. for $35. If you cannot walk that day, but would
still like to have an impact, a donation would also be greatly
appreciated, not only by Gureckis, but by everyone affected by
brain tumors.
There are over 600,000 people in the U.S. living with a primary
brain tumor and over 28,000 of these cases are among children under
the age of 20. Each year approximately 210,000 people in the U.S.
will be diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor –
that's over 575 people a day.
