Stonehill Claims Tenth Straight NE-10 Regular Season Title; Top Seed in Upcoming Women’s Lacrosse Championship

South Easton, Mass. – The Stonehill College Skyhawks secured
the top seed in the upcoming 2008 Northeast-10 Women’s
Lacrosse Championship.
Winning an unprecedented tenth straight Northeast-10 Regular
Season title, the Skyhawks look to capture the team’s ninth
straight Northeast-10 Tournament Title. Stonehill finished
conference play with a 10-0 record and are currently 12-2
overall.
Southern New Hampshire University (11-5) finished slightly behind
the Skyhawks with a 9-1 conference record to claim the second seed
in the tournament. Their only loss in conference play came against
Stonehill Both teams will have quarterfinal byes and will each host
a semifinal game.
Bryant University (9-6, 7-3 NE-10) will be the third seed in the
tournament over Merrimack College (8-5, 7-3 NE-10) who will be the
fourth seed due to the Bulldogs regular season win over the
Warriors. Rounding out the tournament field at number five and six
respectively is Saint Michael’s College (8-6, 6-4 NE-10) and
Bentley College (7-9, 6-4 NE-10). The Purple Knights won the
tie-break for the fifth seed due to their regular season win over
the Falcons.
The quarterfinals begin on Wednesday, April 30 with match-ups
including #6 Bentley at #3 Bryant and #5 Saint Michael’s at
#4 Merrimack. Both quarterfinal games are set for a 4 p.m. start
time.
On Friday, May 2 the semifinal round begins with the Saint
Michael’s/Merrimack winner facing off against #1 Stonehill,
while #2 Southern New Hampshire will host the winner of the
Bentley/Bryant match-up. Both semifinal round games are slated for
a 4 p.m. start.
The championship game will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 4
between the two semifinal winners at the highest remaining
seed.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
