South Easton, Mass. – The Adelphi University
women’s lacrosse team was picked to finish number one in the
Northeast-10 this spring, as voted on by the conference’s 12
head coaches. The Panthers collected 11 of the possible 12 first
place votes for 121 points.
Last season, Adelphi (18–0, 4–0 ECC), won the NCAA
Division II National Championship. This will be the first season
the Panthers will compete in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Stonehill College (10-6, 9-1 NE-10) is slated to finish second in
the conference with 101 points, followed closely behind by the
University of New Haven (16-4, 9-1 NE-10) in third place with 100
points. Merrimack College (8-8, 7-3 NE-10) is picked to finish
fourth with 88 points, while Bentley University (9-9, 7-3 NE-10)
finished fifth with 85 points, including the final first place
vote.
Southern New Hampshire University (13-5, 8-2 NE-10) finished with
76 points in the sixth place spot, followed by Franklin Pierce
University (7-9, 4-6 NE-10) in seventh place and Saint
Michael’s College (4-10, 4-6 NE-10) in eighth, with 58 and 48
points, respectively.
Saint Anselm College (5-10, 4-6 NE-10) finished in ninth with 45
points, while the final three spots were separated by only four
points. Tenth place finisher, American International College (3-12,
1-9 NE-10) picked up 25 points, while Southern Connecticut State
University (1-13, 1-9 NE-10) finished with 23 points in the
eleventh place spot and Assumption College (2-11, 1-9 NE-10) rounds
out the poll in twelfth position with 22 points.
The first Northeast-10 conference contest of the 2010 season is
slated for Monday, March 15 with American International traveling
to Southern New Hampshire. The Northeast-10 Championship will begin
on Wednesday, May 5 and will conclude on Sunday, May 9 with the
championship final.
