C.W. Post Uses Eight Goal Run to Knock Off Le Moyne in National Semifinals

Louisville, Ky. – Jackie Sileo dished out seven assists to lead fifth-ranked C.W. Post to a 15-10 win over the second-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Thursday afternoon in the NCAA Semifinals at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on the campus of Bellarmine University.
The Dolphins finish the season with a 16-3 record, while the Pioneers improve to 16-3 and advance to their fourth national championship game appearance.
The Pioneers struck for the game's first goal 2:47 into the contest as Nan Mayott registered an unassisted tally.
Le Moyne answered with four straight goals over a span of 12 minutes and 22 seconds.
Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Fabian got the Dolphins on the scoreboard at the 23:20 mark with her 19th goal of the year. Just over two minutes later, junior midfielder Gabrielle Kamide gave Le Moyne the lead with her 21st goal of the campaign off a feed from classmate Brenna Bauer.
Senior midfielder Brittany Brigandi, pictured, pushed her team's lead to two by netting her 64th goal of the season with 16:22 left in the half. Brigandi capped the run by converting a free-position shot with 10:58 to play in the half.
C.W. Post responded with five goals over the final 7:52 of the half to regain the lead. Lauren Spagnoletta ended her team's scoreless drought of 19:21 by recording an unassisted goal with 7:52 left in the half.
She followed 76 seconds later with another unassisted tally to pull the Pioneers within 4-3. Only 27 seconds later, Abbie Ross finished off a pass from behind the goal by Sileo to knot the game at four apiece.
The duo connected the same way with 5:32 remaining to put the Pioneers back in front. Ross tallied her third straight goal from the edge of the crease off a pass from behind the goal by Sileo with 51 seconds to go to put C.W. Post in front 6-4 at the intermission.
The Pioneers extended their run to eight straight goals by scoring the first three goals of the second half. Spagnoletta opened the half's scoring at the 28:45 mark with an unassisted goal, while Samantha Losco converted a free-position shot just over two minutes later. Mayott finished off the outburst with an unassisted goal with 22:59 remaining in the game.
The Dolphins connected for back-to-back goals to stay alive in the contest. Sophomore attacker Kathleen Conese snapped her team's scoreless drought of 19:42 by converting a free-position shot with 21:16 left in the contest. Less than two minutes later, Bauer registered her 55th goal of the season to make the score 9-6.
C.W. Post countered with five straight goals to put the game away. After eight minutes and 40 seconds of scoreless action, Ashley Olen netted her first of three straight goals off a pass from Sileo.
Only 50 seconds later (9:59), Olen fired in an unassisted goal to give her team back its five-goal lead. Olen pushed the advantage to 12-6 with 6:43 remaining off another feed from Sileo. Mayott completed her hat trick 29 seconds later with an unassisted tally, while Losco finished off a pass from Sileo 24 seconds later for a 14-6 lead.
Conese ended the streak by the Pioneers with her 42nd goal of the year with 5:24 left to pull the Dolphins within 14-7.
After Spagnoletta pushed C.W. Post's lead to 15-7 with 1:46 left after taking a feed from Sileo, the Dolphins scored the game's final three goals over the last 94 seconds. Conese raced in to tally an unassisted goal with 1:34 left, while Bauer followed with a free-position goal with 1:03 left on the clock. Brigandi completed the game's scoring with her 182nd career goal with 45 second remaining.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo, who started between the pipes for a program record 72nd straight game, made 10 saves, including the 600th of her career, in taking the loss. Dominique Mosca turned away 10 shots in earning her 16th win of the year.
