South Easton, Mass. Franklin Pierce College has received the top seed for the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament, presented by Select Sport America. The Ravens won their fifth consecutive regular season championship with a 12-1-1 NE-10 mark and finished the regular season 14-1-1 overall. In addition, Franklin Pierce looks to add its sixth-consecutive conference tournament crown this week.
The Quarterfinal round kicks off Sunday, October 30. In quarterfinal action, the No. 1 seed Franklin Pierce host eighth seeded Southern Connecticut State University (11-5-2, 7-5-2 NE-10). No. 2 seed Assumption College (13-2-3, 9-2-3 NE-10) hosts No. 7 Southern New Hampshire University (9-7-2, 7-5-2 NE-10), No. 3 The University of Massachusetts Lowell (12-5-1, 9-4-1 NE-10) hosts No. 6 The College of Saint Rose (10-3-4, 7-3-4 NE-10) at 4:00 p.m., and No. 4 Merrimack College (13-4-1, 9-4-1 NE-10) hosts No. 5 Bryant University (13-5-2, 9-4-1 NE-10).
The semifinal round will take place Wednesday, November 2 at the higher remaining seeds while the highest remaining seed will host the championship game Sunday, November 6.
NOTES: Franklin Pierce has claimed the five straight regular season titles and is defending its streak of five straight championships. The Ravens have won every NE-10 tournament match since joining the league in 2000 and in addition, have won 75 total league games during that time span. Assumption, the runner up in the 2004 tournament, started the season with an impressive nine game winning streak and a 13 game unbeaten streak. UMass Lowell, who edged Merrimack in a three-way tie due to a 1-0 double overtime victory at Merrimack during the regular season and a 1-0 victory over Bryant University, receive its highest seed since joining the NE-10 in 2000. The River Hawks are hosting their first-ever post season game in womens soccer after finishing the regular season with a program best 12-5-1 overall record. Merrimack finished the regular season in a three-way tie for third in the conference standings with UMass Lowell and Bryant, claiming the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament due to a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs during the regular season. The Warriors have collected eight runner-up honors in the NE-10 tournament and five titles, one of which that they split with Springfield in 1989. Bryant owned an eight game winning streak this season. The Bulldogs best post season performance was in 1985 when the team garnered runner-up honors at the NE-10 tournament. Saint Rose tied a school record with nine shutouts on the year. In each of the Golden Knights last six seasons since joining the league, they have posted at least 10 matches. Southern New Hampshire closed out the year by winning five of its final six games. SNHU returns to its second championship after missing a post season bid in 2004. Southern Connecticut started the year on a 6-0 run and is making its sixth trip to the post season in as many years of its Northeast-10 membership. The Owls first round matchup with Franklin Pierce is the first time the two teams will meet in the post season since the Ravens bested Southern Connecticut 3-2 in the championship game in 2000.
