South Easton, Mass. – Senior forward Joceyln Savastano of Saint Anselm College has been named the 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year as voted by the conference coaches. A native of Plymouth, Mass., Savastano finished the regular season with the most points scored, recording 13 goals and adding eight assists for 34 points in conference play. She led her Hawks to a 6-5-3 league record, earning them the sixth seed in the conference tournament, their first bid since 1999. In 2003, Savastano was named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. In addition to being named Player of the Year, Savastano has also been named to the Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference.

Pace University’s Joceylne Durando was voted the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year. A native of Monroe, N.Y., the senior was also named to the First Team.

Franklin Pierce College midfielder Shona Franklin was selected as the 2005 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. Franklin, a native of Leicester, England, was also selected to the Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference.

From Franklin Pierce, senior Alex Scavo from Toronto, Ontario was selected to share the Defensive Player of the Year award with senior Kylee Litchfield of The College of Saint Rose. Both Scavo and Litchfield also belong to the Northeast-10 First Team.

Also receiving a major award from the Golden Knights is head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil, who was selected by her peers to be the 2006 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year after leading Saint Rose to its first-ever Northeast-10 Regular Season Championship and top seed in the tournament.

Joining, Savastano, Durando, Frankin, Scavo and Litchfield on the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team are Bryant University’s Casey Grange, Stonehill College’s Lauren Boyd, Le Moyne College’s Christina Harrison and Laura Asbell and Heather Carr of Merrimack College. Additionally, Franklin and Scavo’s teammate Gabriella Demoner has been selected to the First Team, as well as Litchfield’s teammate Lindsay Bove. Kristen Cannon of Assumption College has also been named to the First Team.

The Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team included Merrimack’s Catie Hall, Gabriella Gramprey and Hillary McGarr, Heidi Reece and Nicole Dunn of Saint Anselm, Jenna Giardina of Franklin Pierce, Saint Michael’s College Kelly Boulter, Lisa Newton of The University of Massachusetts Lowell, Carolyn Mahoney of Southern New Hampshire University, Tricia Spada and Danielle Malta of the Bulldogs, and Ashley McGuire and Lauren Steinberg of Saint Rose.

The Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team included Stonehill’s Ashely Bourne and Megan O’Brien, UMass Lowell teammates Tanekar Alexander, Tricia Auld, Kristen Mahoney, Jamie Lynn Cathcart and Jamie Gillis, Ashley Knight of Southern Connecticut State University, Diane Pascal of Bryant, Saint Rose’s Deanna Wachtel, Assumption’s Holly McGrath, Franklin Pierce’s Rebecca Westbury, Pace’s Kimberely Ludwig and Heather Macedo of Merrimack.
