Information Provided By Saint Michael's Sports Information
COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College
women’s soccer team will make a sizable donation to the Lupus
Foundation of New England on Saturday, as the Purple Knights
welcome local youth soccer players to the team’s 11 a.m. home
game versus the University of New Haven.
Prior to Saturday’s contest, Saint Michael’s –
led by 10th-year head coach Marcel Choquette – will present a
check for $800 to the Lupus Foundation of New England. The money
was raised last week, as the team worked at Resolution Inc., a
private video tape production and duplication company based in
South Burlington.
The donation will be made in memory of the late Angela Baxter, the
mother of Saint Michael’s junior defensive back Alicia Baxter
(Waltham, Mass./Waltham).
The Purple Knights will also welcome a pair of youth groups to
Saturday’s contest versus the Chargers. Saint Michael’s
will host Nordic Soccer Club Day, and Saint Michael’s Soccer
Camp Day, in which youths that have taken part in either of these
activities are encouraged to come to the game and show their
support for the Purple Knights. Both groups will also be recognized
prior to the contest.
Saint Michael’s (3-3-1, 0-2-1 Northeast-10 Conference) is
3-1-1 at home this season, and is coming off of Wednesday’s
0-0 tie with Saint Anselm College. The Purple Knights are led by a
pair of first-years from Vermont – Laura Ostrout (Northfield,
Vt./Northfield), who is tied for fifth in the NE-10 with 10 points
– and Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt./Milton), third in the
league with a 0.57 goals against average.
Saturday’s game is also part of Alumni Weekend at Saint
Michael’s. Other athletic events taking place during Alumni
Weekend include the 21st-annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner and
Induction Ceremony, beginning at 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in
South Burlington.
Following Saturday’s women’s soccer game, the Saint
Michael’s field hockey team – ranked sixth in the
country - hosts Assumption College for a 2 p.m. contest on Duffy
Field at Doc Jacobs Complex, and on Sunday, the Purple
Knights’ women’s tennis team hosts Assumption at 2 p.m.
There will also be alumni games held for men’s lacrosse,
women’s soccer, field hockey and baseball over the
weekend.
