ALBANY – Laurie Darling Gutheil, head
women’s soccer coach at The College of Saint Rose, has been
named the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Mondo
Division II National Coach of the Year. The announcement was made
as part of the annual NSCAA Awards Banquet, held in conjunction
with the 2010 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia Saturday night.
The Golden Knights posted a 24-1 record while advancing to the NCAA
Championship Finals for the second consecutive year under Darling
Gutheil this past fall. Their only loss was an overtime decision to
eventual national champion Grand Valley State. In the past eight
years, she had led Saint Rose a 135-27-14 record and seven NCAA
Tournament appearances.
Saint Rose also became only the third team in Northeast-10
Conference history (1985) to win three consecutive postseason
league championships this past fall. The Golden Knights furthermore
came one victory shy of tying an NCAA Division II single-season
record and also set a school standard with 18 shutouts.
