Northeast-10 Weekly Notes:

Stonehill: Stonehill claimed its first outright Northeast-10 regular season title in 14 years by completing an unbeaten league campaign Wednesday at Southern New Hampshire, as the Skyhawks gained the inside track to the crown last Tuesday by snapping Bryant's 35-match conference regular season winning streak with a 5-4 triumph in Smithfield. Stonehill trailed the Bulldogs 4-1 before rallying to win the final four singles matches in straight sets, including sophomore Daniella Granato's (Concord, Mass.) decisive contest at number five singles in a tie-breaker. Stonehill's title was its fourth regular season crown overall dating back to 1991. Wednesday's win at Southern New Hampshire enabled Stonehill to tie the school record for single-season victories first set in 1992 when the Skyhawks posted a perfect 15-0 mark en route to their last outright regular season crown. Stonehill Head Coach Pam Arpe picked up her second Northeast-10 title as a coach this academic year, as she also guided the Skyhawk field hockey team to the league tournament title in October. Granato posted a perfect 24-0 mark in singles and doubles play in conference regular season action, combining with senior Jennifer Arcabascio (Salem, N.H.) for a 12-0 record at #1 doubles after ending Bryant's winning skein at that same position. Senior Anna Walsh (Dennis, Mass.) also notched a perfect 12-0 mark in regular season league singles play, while sophomores Elise Clark (Spring Lake, N.J.) and Allison Bleakney (Lewiston, Maine) were 11-1 in doubles action? Bryant: The Bulldogs had their Northeast-10 win streak snapped this week with a 5-4 loss against Stonehill. They finished the year at 11-1. Sacha Solomon and Alex Spence both finish the year with perfect 12-0 records in conference play at the No.1 and No.2 Singles respectively. Spence and Alanna Santanello completed a perfect NE-10 season at No.2 doubles compiling an 11-0 record. Lauren Mullen and Michelle Burke also finshed with a perfect NE-10 record of 10-0? Saint Michael's: With the team's victory on Wednesday, the Purple Knights reached 10 wins for the second straight season, and seventh time in the last eight years. Saint Michael's will play an NE-10 Quarterfinal contest on the road on Wednesday? Southern New Hampshire: The Penmen have earned their second-straight trip to the NE-10 Tournament and will travel to second-seeded Bryant University for an opeing-round match Wednesday. Sophomores Juliet Verhofstad (Plymouth, NH) and Amanda Nason (Center Sandwich, NH) both posted an 8-4 record in singles play during the regular-season? Assumption: Senior Katey Hayden (Turner Falls, Ma/Turner Falls) and junior Shannon Steele (Plainville, MA/King Philip) currently have a four-match win streak at no. 3 doubles. Sophomore Kate Mattei (no. 2 singles, Rochdale, MA/Notre Dame Academy) extended her winning streak at no. 2 singles to four matches with the victory over St. Rose. Hayden won both of her matches at no. 3 doubles last week and sophomore Amanda Boyer (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) won both singles matches.
