UMass Lowell Men Picked First Among Cross Country Coaches

River Hawks narrowly edge Stonehill in Northeast-10 Preseason Poll

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Lowell received 216 points and nine first-place votes to garner the top spot in the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Cross Country Coaches Preseason Poll.

The River Hawks narrowly topped Stonehill College, which finished second with 214 points and seven first-place votes. Stonehill won last year’s Northeast-10 Championship.

The 2012 Northeast-10 Championship will take place on Saturday, October 20, hosted by Le Moyne College.

UMass Lowell and Stonehill also finished 20th and 21st, respectively, at last year’s NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship.

Southern Connecticut State University finished third in the poll with 184 points, while American International College was fourth with 172 points, just ahead of fifth-place Bentley University, which had 171 points.

Rounding out the top-10 was Adelphi University with 164 points, Merrimack College with 124 points, University of New Haven with 117 points, The College of Saint Rose with 113 points, and Franklin Pierce University with 87 points.

Making up the remainder of the poll was Assumption College (82 points), Le Moyne College (80), Saint Michael’s College (75), Saint Anselm College (58), Southern New Hampshire University (34), and Pace University (29).

Seven Northeast-10 schools also made up the top-10 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason East Region rankings for the 2012 season, with UMass Lowell, Stonehill and Bentley occupying the top three positions.
