Stonehill Finishes First in Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll

Defending champion Skyhawks receive 15 first-place votes to take top spot

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Stonehill College took the top spot in the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll, as voted upon by the league's head coaches.

The Skyhawks, after finishing 19th at last year's NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship, received 225 points and 15 first-place votes en route to the top spot after winning the Northeast-10 Championship last fall.

The 2012 Northeast-10 Championship will take place on Saturday, October 20, hosted by Le Moyne College.

Bentley University finished in second place with 208 points and one first-place vote, followed by Southern Connecticut State University with 166 points. University of Massachusetts Lowell finished fourth with 161 points, just ahead of fifth-place Merrimack College with 160 points.

Saint Michael's College finished sixth with 155 points, Adelphi University was seventh with 144 points, and Le Moyne College came in eighth with 124 points. The College of Saint Rose was ninth with 120 points, while American International College rounded out the top-10 with 114 points.

The remainder of the poll included Saint Anselm College (100 points), University of New Haven (78), Southern New Hampshire University (53), Assumption College (39), Franklin Pierce University (37), and Pace University (36).

Nine Northeast-10 schools also made up the top-10 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason East Region rankings for the 2012 season. Stonehill, Bentley and American Int'l took the top three spots in that order.
