FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption Director of Athletics Jamie Marcoux is pleased to announce the hiring of Guy Bourdon as the College's men's lacrosse head coach. Bourdon comes to Assumption after previously serving as the head coach at Division III Benedictine University and an assistant coach at Le Moyne College.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Guy as the head coach to lead our men's lacrosse program," said Marcoux. "He stood out in the interview process with his depth of knowledge about the game and his previous success coaching in the Northeast 10. He also displayed a desire to help each student-athlete achieve academic success, as well as be involved in the community, which aligns with our mission at Assumption."
Bourdon has strong ties to the NE10, as he was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Le Moyne from 2010-15. During his time with the Dolphins, the team never lost more than three games in a season, highlighted by winning the 2013 NCAA Championship. He was also part of a Dolphins staff which reached the NCAA Championship game in 2015. Over his five years, the team went 50-3 in the NE10, while his defense led the nation in goals against each year. He helped produce ten All-Americans and was selected as the NCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013.
"I could not be more excited to get to Assumption and continue to build a program that is defined by effort, character and attitude," said Bourdon. "We will work relentlessly to be the best students in the classroom, athletes on the field, and leaders in the community. Our culture will drive our vision as a program, to graduate young men of great character and to compete at the highest level within Division II lacrosse."
Bourdon took the head coaching position at DIII Benedictine in July of 2015 and led the Eagles to a pair of 11-win seasons in his three years with the team, finishing with a 28-23 career record. This past year they won seven conference games for the first time in program history. The Eagles finished 2018 with an 11-7 mark overall, and had the first player in program history to earn MLC Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. During his three seasons the program produced 19 all-conference student-athletes and one CoSIDA Academic All-American. Bourdon helped raise the team cumulative GPA from a 2.7 to 3.2 over his three seasons and his program has also been active in the community.
Prior to his time with Le Moyne, Bourdon worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over ten years while coaching with various high school programs in the Midwest. He is a native of Syracuse, N.Y. and graduated with a degree in Biology from Ripon in 1999.
