NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team, along with head coach Tony Martone, recently donated old uniform kits as part of an established relationship with the River of Life Church in Masaka, Uganda.
Beginning four years ago, the program has donated various pieces of equipment, including balls, shoes, pinnies and most recently, the uniform kit, to River of Life. The players of Synergy FC, the youth team that received the uniforms through the Ugandan church, can be seen wearing the jerseys in the video to the right.
"It's part of a commitment as a program to do as much as we can to give back to those less privileged than us," Martone stated. "Seeing our uniform on kids halfway across the world and putting a smile on their faces is an incredible feeling."
Synergy FC is a subprogram of River for Life, as the organization continues to develop youth programs amongst the local communities in Uganda.
The connection between Merrimack and Synergy FC is just another example of an extremely successful 2014 year, on and off the field, for the men's soccer program. The Warriors advanced to the East Region Final of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, and received national recognition when their relationship with Team IMPACT was recognized with a cover feature by the NCAA Champion Magazine.
