July 20, 2016

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 continued formally recognizing its Hall of Fame Class of 2016 on Wednesday, honoring the three head coaches within the distinguished group this week. The next coach to be honored was former Assumption men’s tennis coach John Ippolito.

Ippolito led one of the most dominant eras of any sport in NE-10 history as his men’s tennis teams captured nine straight Northeast-10 Conference Championships during his 11 years as the Assumption head coach.

A five-time NE-10 Coach of the Year, Ippolito’s teams posted an overall record of 187-41 for a winning percentage of .820 and advanced to nine straight NCAA tournaments. His teams were even more impressive in Northeast-10 play, posting a record of 101-13.

At one point, Assumption posted 117 straight victories under Ippolito. He coached 24 of the 25 winningest players in school history, including four-time Northeast-10 Player of the Year and current Hall of Fame member Sean Kenney.

The newest members of the NE-10 Hall of Fame were honored at the conference’s annual banquet, which was held on June 6.

  • Assumption went undefeated in conference play over Ippolito’s final nine seasons from the 1998-99 season through 2006-07, going 95-0 vs. NE-10 teams during that stretch
  • The Greyhounds won nine straight NE-10 titles from 1999-2007, earning NCAA tournament bids in each of the nine seasons
  • In 2002, Ippolito led Assumption to the NCAA East Regional title, defeating Bloomsburg, 5-4
  • Honored for his performance during his playing days in 1995, Ippolito was recognized by the USTA for winning 100 sanctioned tournaments
