FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The crazy chaotic 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Championship continued Friday night as a pair of lower-seeded teams posted wins to advance to the title game. Here's how the two games played out -
#4 LIU Post 3, #1 Saint Anselm 2, 2OT
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Emily Miller's goal in double-overtime would be the difference as fourth-seeded LIU Post upset top-seeded Saint Anselm in a rematch of last year's NE10 Championship Final. The Pioneers' win coupled with Assumption's victory means that Sunday's Championship game will be hosted by LIU Post. Game time is set for 1pm
After trailing 1-0 at the half, LIU Post got on the scoreboard courtesy of the first of two Alyssa Lopresti goals in the contest. The two teams would exchange goals and would be deadlocked at two at the end of regulation. The game would remian tied until Miller's putback of her own shot in the 95th minute would send the Pioneers to Sunday's title game.
#6 Assumption 1, #2 Stonehill 0
EASTON, Mass. - In the last 28 seconds, freshman Deirdre Burchill, pictured, scored off a feed from senior Allison Sheahan to defeat No. 2 Stonehill in the NE10 Semifinals to advance to the NE10 Championship on Sunday. With the win, Assumption advances to the NE10 title game to take on LIU Post.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first half but the Assumption offense controlled the play out shooting the Skyhawks 8-2 and recording three more penalty corners. In the 42nd minute, Stonehill's Kacie Smith picked up a loose ball to go on a break away and Hounds goaltender Sarah Bodzinski dove and blocked the attempt to keep the shutout intact.
In the last 28 seconds, Sheahan had an open lane on the right side. She dribbled towards the circle and crossed the ball in front where Burchill netted the feed to win the game 1-0.
