NE-10 Coaches Select Adelphi as Preseason Favorite

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Two-time defending Northeast-10 Champion Adelphi has been selected as the preseason favorite in the NE-10 Volleyball Coaches’ Poll, it was announced on Thursday.

Adelphi picked up 193 points in total and 13 first-place votes. The Panthers are coming off a record season in 2015, having gone 27-5 overall and a perfect 14-0 in conference play en route to the NE-10 regular season crown and their second straight NE-10 Championship. Adelphi won 22 matches in a row before falling to NYIT in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Many familiar faces return for the Panthers in 2016, including a pair of major conference award winners. 2015 Coach of the Year Danielle MacKnight brings back reigning NE-10 Player and Setter of the Year Megan Manierski, as well as Libero of the Year Sierra Crook and all-conference first-teamer Mandy Stanislovaitis.

Franklin Pierce drew the second spot in the poll, garnering 169 points to go along with a vote for first place. Leading the way for the Ravens will be last season’s conference Rookie of the Year and first team all-conference member Katie Leidhold, who finished fifth in the league with 344 kills in 2015.

Bentley took the third spot with 161 points, just ahead of New Haven in fourth with 160 points and the final first-place vote. New Haven reached the finals of the NE-10 Championship as the No. 7 seed last season before dropping a 3-0 decision to the red-hot Panthers in the title match. Rounding out the top-5 was Le Moyne, which gathered 153 points overall.

Sixth was Saint Rose with 113 points, right ahead of American International in seventh with 111. Southern New Hampshire (8th – 102 pts.), Pace (9th – 97) and Stonehill (10th – 84) concluded the top-10. Making up the remainder of the field were Saint Anselm (11th – 70), Merrimack (12th – 57), Assumption (13th – 36), Southern Connecticut (14th – 35) and Saint Michael’s (15th – 34).

The 2016 volleyball season opens for the majority of NE-10 teams on Friday, Sept. 2. The NE-10 season will culminate with the NE-10 Championship, which will begin with quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The semifinals will be played on Friday, Nov. 18, while the championship match will take place the next day, Saturday, Nov. 19.
